The Largest Junior High Wrestling Tournament in Allegheny County
Born in 2024. Built for the Future.
The Allegheny County Junior High Wrestling Championship kicked off in 2024 at Shaler Area High School — and it didn't take long to become the county's premier stage for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade wrestlers. Two days, 15 weight classes, 30 middle schools, and the next generation of Allegheny County champions leaving it all on the mat.
Thomas Jefferson set the early bar, claiming back-to-back team titles in the tournament's first two years. But West Allegheny is on their heels, claiming the championship in 2026.
Many of the wrestlers who step on the mat here go on to place at the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling state tournament that same season, proof that this is where the county's future high school and state champions get their start.
Run by a small crew of dedicated tournament directors and the Shaler Area Wrestling Boosters, the championship keeps growing every January — bigger fields, tighter brackets, and more eyes watching a new generation chase the title.
Wrestlers compete in a double elimination bracket by weight class. 8 places are awarded, so every wrestler who makes it that far knows exactly where they stand.
Wrestlers are seeded into brackets by weight class, with every match building toward the finals.
One loss doesn't end your tournament. The consolation bracket gives wrestlers a second route to place, from 3rd through 8th.
Day two finals decide the Allegheny County Junior High champion at every weight.
*Tentative — final schedule confirmed closer to the tournament.
